Face of man whose remains were found at Sydney Metro dig
Sydney Morning Herald, By Tim Barlass - June 29, 2019
The Metro project running through the Sydney CBD has unearthed several burials as part of the ongoing construction works. Teams of archaeologists have been working on different sites in an effort to understand the graves, people and early history of Sydney. Only one on these new excavations have been able to tell exactly who the individual is thanks to the preserved name plate on the remnants of the coffin, Joseph Thompson.

Historian and descendant of Joseph Thomson, Penny Russell, writes a companion piece on what it’s like to be writing your own family history, when the grave of your ancestor becomes the subject of an archaeological investigation.
